I came home from the Skyforce game Friday night beat tired from a long day at work knowing full well that when I got home I most likely was going to be met by a small 'mountain of snow' at the end of the driveway.  When I got home, I was pleasantly surprised.

The city of Sioux Falls has had headlines and 'first story news stories' of late with the topic being "Snow gates".

When I lived in Green Bay, Wisconsin and that first "garbage truck" with a snow plow on the front came by and sealed me in I thought out load, there has to be a better way.  At the time I thought it might be a good idea to offer the plow driver some cash to avoid putting the snow in the street instead of my driveway.

I put that thought on the back burner...till Friday night when I was coming home tired.  When I got to my driveway it was 'slick clean'.  I noticed that my neighbors had a small stream of snow going across theirs.  That was all!

I asked my wife, she said that "she had done the end of the drive with a shovel, but that there wasn't too much."

I know they cost a ton of money to put on.  I know there are some streets in Sioux Falls in older neighborhoods, and I know they slow down the process of plowing out hundreds of miles of streets.  But you know what?  As I get older, I'm appreciative of the fact that Sioux Falls is at least considering using snow gates wherever they can.

Sure, I'd rather not pay higher taxes.  But this snow gate thing looks like a pretty good idea out of the box.  At my place anyway. How about you?  What do you think?
