Over the past several years, the Helpline Center has partnered with the South Dakota State Penitentiary to provide the Scoop It program to low-income seniors.

Unfortunately, the program recently ended due to staffing constraints experienced by the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

The Helpline Center has since partnered with Active Generation to help fill the gap through their Workers on Wheels Adopt a Driveway program.

Several volunteers have stepped forward these past few weeks, but there is still a need for more volunteers from all areas of the community.

This is a great opportunity for an individual, family, business or church group to help make a difference for an older adult.

Volunteers would be responsible for shoveling their assigned individual’s driveway and sidewalk within 48 hours of a snowfall that is more than two inches.

If you would be interested in volunteering through this program, or to find out if you might qualify for the 'Adopt a Driveway' program, call 2-1-1 or apply online.
