For the second time in a month, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service investigated the shooting of bald eagles in South Dakota.

The first investigation centered around Faulk County in early March. A few weeks later, a second killing was discovered in the neighboring county of Spink, near the town of Athol, SD.

According to the Valley News, a Special Agent has been assigned to the case and would welcome any leads in the case. Special Agent Ken Dulik can be reached at 605-885-6403. The South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks would also welcome tips from the public. The caller may remain anonymous. That number is 605-380-4572.

Rewards are also on the table for tips leading to an arrest.

It is a state and federal offense to kill a bald eagle and the penalty is quite steep. The maximum penalty could be one year in prison and a $100,000 fine. If two bald eagles are killed, the penalties can be even more severe: two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
