Pizza was invented by Raffaele Esposito in Naples, Italy in 1889. Originally, pizza's were a means for the poor to use up whatever ingredients they had on hand. All that changed when Queen Margherita of Savoy, who had traveled to Naples with King Umberto I, asked Esposito to prepare the dish had become known for.

Esposito prepared three pizzas, including one with tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and basil (now you know where the "Margherita" pizza comes from). The queen loved the pizzas and thus its popularity was cemented.

By the way, Esposito's restaurant still exists (though under a different name) and the letter he received from the queen praising his pizzas is still on display.

But enough of the history lesson: who could have given Esposito a run for his money here in Sioux Falls? We asked, you answered. Here is the top 11!

Other locations receiving votes included Dareo's, Taste of the Big Apple, Pizza Ranch, Old Chicago, Zesty's, Godfather's, Domino's and Papa Murphy.
