As South Dakotans we all have our own opinions on this subject I'm sure. But we have the right to say we're boring, does anyone else? Road Snacks, is an "infotainment" website that aims to give alternate, yet humorous portraits of the places people live by using data and analytics to disperse knowledge which they say real estate agents won't share with you.

This time the subject is; boring cities in South Dakota. How did they determine this? They used a complex algorithm with data from the U.S. Census Bureau and applied it to all cities in South Dakota with populations of at least 2,000 people. They gathered statistics on; average age of residents, percentage of married households, households with kids, households with people over 35 and 65 and population density.

By the way, the higher the percentage in all of those categories, the more boring a city is considered to be. Here then are the most boring cities in South Dakota:

  1. Custer
  2. Milbank
  3. Redfield
  4. Winner
  5. Hot Springs
  6. Lead
  7. Elk Point
  8. Chamberlain
  9. Canton
  10. Flandreau

Before you get your undies all up-in-a-bunch, keep in mind they weren't using personal opinion here, they were simply applying a mathematic algorithm and crunching numbers.

Conversely, according to said algorithm, the most exciting cities in South Dakota are:

  1. Vermillion
  2. Brookings
  3. Sioux Falls
  4. Madison
  5. Aberdeen
  6. Tea
  7. Volga
  8. Harrisburg
  9. Spearfish
  10. Rapid City
