The New York Times has put together graphs of each state showing where people moved from. It might not surprise you that 65% of South Dakotans were born here, but it might surprise you where some people did come from.

The chart details from the years 1900-2012. In 1900, 38% of the population was born in the state. While most people moved to South Dakota from Iowa in the early 1900s, the trend has now moved to Minnesota.

New York is the only outside state that does make an appearance for South Dakota. As of today, less than 1% of the population was born in New York. Interesting enough, I am apart of that 1%.

What percentage are you? For full details, visit the New York Times article.
