South Dakota is routinely criticized for its' lack of beautiful locations, mainly by people who have never visited the state. But, the Rushmore State does have a fair number of places that are easy on the eyes. My personal favorite: Spearfish Canyon with its' winding roads and majestic rock formations set amidst the evergreen trees of the Black Hills.

National website Thrillist has another choice for South Dakota's most beautiful locale, as part of their list of 'The Most Beautiful Place in Each State'. They choose Buffalo Gap Natural Grassland in the Western Badlands, saying:

Here, buffalo literally do roam under rock formations and through grass prairies that stretch well into Nebraska.

I know some people love the view of the Missouri River or the wide open spaces of Custer State Park. Go to our Facebook page and let us know which South Dakota spot you think is prettiest.
