Where are South Dakota’s Division I College Football Players Coming From?
It’s been ten years since NCAA Division I college football came to South Dakota, when South Dakota State made the jump from Division II in 2004.
Since then, the number of D-I schools in the state has doubled, when South Dakota moved up in 2008.
But long before Division I football arrived in the Rushmore State, Division I recruiters were coming and taking South Dakota’s best high school football players out of the state.
So where is the current crop of D-I talent coming from?
In South Dakota, Minnehaha County accounts for more than half (21) of the 41 South Dakotans currently playing in Division I.
In all, 14 of South Dakota’s 66 counties (21%) have at least one player at the D-I level.
