Did you know it's illegal to fall asleep in a cheese factory in South Dakota?  I like this law because I'm a big fan of Dimock cheese and I appreciate that they're not slacking on the job.

I recently saw an article listing the weirdest law in each state.  Surprisingly, the cheese factory law, wasn't the weirdest in South Dakota. According to the article, the weirdest law in South Dakota is this:

Agricultural producers may set off fireworks and other explosives to safeguard their sunflower crops. Crows and other birds can wreak havoc on a blossoming field, and pyrotechnics are farmers' first defense — so long as they're not used within 600 feet of an occupied home, church, or schoolhouse.

I decided to search the internet to find other odd laws in the Mount Rushmore State. Here's what I came up with. I would think most of these either can't be true or can't be enforced in 2015. If you know if they're still in effect, leave a comment below or on Facebook.

  • Every room in a South Dakota hotel is required to have twin beds. And the beds must always be a minimum of two feet apart when a couple rents a room for only one night. And it's illegal to make love on the floor between the beds!
  • In South Dakota it is illegal to try to convince a pacifist to renounce his beliefs by threatening to arm-wrestle him.
  • Movies that show police officers being struck, beaten, or treated in an offensive manner are forbidden.
Do you know any other weird laws in South Dakota?
