When tying up your shoelaces, you may have wondered what the purpose of those extra tiny holes are at the top of the shoe. Turns out, they could really help you out the next time you go running, walking or hiking.

According to YouTube channel, Illumiseen, these extra holes let you create a ‘heel lock’ or ‘lace lock’ to prevent running shoe blisters. To utilize these holes, you first have to thread the lace on the same side through the hole, forming a loop on each side, then sending the opposite lace through the loops and tying normally from there. Voila, just like that not more blisters!

After all these years of tying a shoe, it's funny how we never knew about the extra holes.
