Miranda Lambert paid special tribute to the Eagles at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors event, with a beautiful cover of the band's song "Desperado."

The Eagles were set to be honored at the annual ceremony, which took place on Dec. 6 and aired on Dec. 29, but due to co-founder Glenn Frey's recent stomach surgery, the band (made up of Frey, Don Henley, Timothy Schmit and Joe Walsh) decided to postpone their honor for another year.

The event's host, Stephen Colbert, explained during the broadcast that the Eagles chose to delay the honor because they wanted to "accept their honor the way they made their music: together -- and shirtless." He added, to much laughter, "But, it was the '70s. But since the rest of us are here, let's celebrate them anyway."

Colbert then introduced Lambert, who sang her rendition of "Desperado," which was written by Frey and Henley and became a hit for the band in 1973. Lambert certainly did the song justice with her sweet-as-honey vocals; readers can watch her entire performance above.

The 2015 Kennedy Center honorees, in addition to the Eagles, included singer-songwriter Carole King, filmmaker George Lucas, actress and singer Rita Moreno, conductor Seiji Ozawa and actress and Broadway star Cicely Tyson. Performers who took the stage in their honor included Lambert, Aretha Franklin, Sara Bareilles, Janelle Monae, James Taylor and CeCe Winans.

Numerous country artists, such as Merle Haggard, George Jones, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff and more, have been honored throughout the Kennedy Center Honors' 38 years.
