When home invasions occur in Sioux Falls, odds are drugs are involved. Officials say that the incident on S. Louise Avenue early Sunday morning followed the pattern.

Early in the police’s response to 4800 S. Louise Avenue #4 on Sunday July 19 it was clear that extenuating circumstances applied. Possibly five or more masked persons were trying to rob the place.

After announcing that police were on their way some of the intruders left. However a 17 year-old that stayed was stabbed and had to be taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police procedure necessitates a sweep of the residence which turned up copious amounts of drugs which led to the arrest of 19 year-old David Zutz. Considering it’s still early in the process, Police Officer Sam Clemens compared this case to one that occurred in northwestern Sioux Falls more than a year ago.

“This incident is eerily similar to the LeBeau case.” By invoking that name, Clemens recalls another house that was robbed because it was known to be a place where drugs were kept along with a lot of cash. Jordan LeBeau was murdered and a lot of young people were involved.

It’s just an example of the ruthless nature of those involved with drugs. “The vast majority of home invasions are drug related. I think the important thing that people need to know is that this is not random. They’re all targeted specifically and they’re looking for drugs or cash.”

An 18 year-old woman who lived in the residence was not immediately located. Police expect more arrests to come in this case.
