Graduates from SDSU, Augi and the University of Sioux Falls might beg to differ, but if you believe the gang at Forbes, the University of South Dakota is the school you want to attend in South Dakota.

Forbes recently named USD as the best college in South Dakota on its list of top institutions in each state.

You can bet USD students and grads will have a little extra swagger upon hearing that news.

The ranking states that USD is a public research institution that plays a central role in the Rushmore state. Statistics show that 70 percent of the state’s attorneys and 48 percent of South Dakota's physicians are USD graduates.

According to USD president, James W. Abbott, “There are a number of excellent colleges and universities in South Dakota. We are very pleased Forbes considers USD the best in the state.”

The Forbes ranking puts USD in some great company, as other top schools in surrounding states include private institutions like; Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, Grinnell College, in Grinnell, Iowa, and Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota.

Scott Pohlson, USD vice president of marketing, enrollment and university relations, said, “This reinforces what we’ve always believed. USD is a unique public liberal arts university in its size, quality and affordability.”

The University of South Dakota, was founded in 1862. Its current (2015-16) total undergraduate enrollment is 7,541 students.
