The Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History in Sioux Falls is an absolutely awesome place!  On a recent visit I had the opportunity to get up close and personal with Giraffes, Monkeys, and even Rhinos.

I can't thank President and CEO of the Great Plains Zoo Elizabeth Whealy enough for such an unbelievable experience!  If you have the opportunity to visit this gem of a Zoo you need to jump at the opportunity.

While we were there we learned of a very unique opportunity. You could help name a baby Black Rhino and help save the worlds Rhino population!

A new baby Black Rhino was born to pappa Jubba and mamma Imara at the Great Plains Zoo. The Zoo now holds 3 of only 58 Eastern Black Rhinos in North America.

It is estimated that there are fewer than 740 Eastern Black Rhinos left in the wild. They are considered to be a critically endangered species.  And by casting a vote for your favorite Rhino name you can help save the Rhinos.

You can cast your vote for your favorite name for just $1 per entry with all proceeds going to benefit the International Rhino Foundation.

Votes can be cast online at www.RhinoBaby.gesture.com, in the lobby of the Great Plains Zoo, or by texting “RhinoBaby” to 52182.

The name that receives the most donations will be given to the Rhino calf, and you are invited to vote as many times as you like for your favorite name. The name choices include the following:

  • Bomani (bo-MAHN-ee) meaning “great warrior”
  • Komati (KO-mah-tee) is a river in South Africa
  • Khari (KHAH-ree) meaning “like a king, kingly”
  • Kirabo (Kee-rah-boe) meaning “gift”
  • Kemi (Kem-ee) meaning “spoil me with love”
