Uber, the online transportation network company, has hit a bit of a speed bump here in Sioux Falls. Their paperwork is incomplete. Therefore they cannot begin operating in the city quite yet.

The transportation network company did submit an application to the Sioux Falls licensing office last month, along with the required $1,500 annual license fee. However, proof of a sales tax license has not yet been provided, according to city licensing specialist Jamie Palmer.

A license for Uber to begin operating cannot be granted until the sales tax license issue is resolved.

That requirement is one of the conditions included in the city's revamped driver-for-hire rules that took effect last fall.

Carla Jacobs, a spokeswoman for Uber, didn't divulge when Uber plans on obtaining a sales tax license. She did say, the company is "continuing to work with the city" on its application.

For now, the convenient, inexpensive, taxi service is in limbo here in Sioux Falls.
