Be ready for less room to rumble on the controlled access highway system. Thankfully the work will be done during times when fewer cars will be moving through.

Starting Monday, Interstate 29 at the 41st St. Exit will be reduced to one lane for both northbound and southbound traffic from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM on June 15 and 16. South Dakota Department of Transportation maintenance crews are planning preventative maintenance for the overhead structure.

Also on Monday June 15, the SDDOT will be setting girders for the new Highway 18 bridge over Interstate 29 at Exit 62 to Canton. This particular project will be an overnight affair.

The placement should start at 6:00 PM Monday night and end at 6:00 AM Tuesday morning. Traffic will need to be shifted onto the exit and entrance ramps for both northbound and southbound lanes.

There will be no access to I-29 north bound or southbound from Highway 18 during these hours. Speeds will be significantly altered for motorists on I-29 because the newly constructed ramps are a gravel surface as opposed to the normal asphalt during this timeframe.

SDOT suggests using I-29 Exit 64 to the north or Exit 59 to the south to access Highway 18 during the bridge girder placement. The new bridge is anticipated to be complete by late summer.
