If you like your Summer getaways a little on the wacky side, there are a pair of nearby festivals you need to see for yourself!

The website Thrillist has selected two celebrations, within a short drive of Sioux Falls, as part of their '15 Weirdest Summer Festivals in the America'.

The first is The Chicken Show in Wayne, Nebraska, just two hours South of Sioux Falls. This annual event runs July 8-10 this year and is highlighted by the 'National Cluck-Off' - grown adults adorning feathers and pulling out their best chicken impression for some prize money.

Come for the cluck-off, stay for the free chicken stories at the library, the rubber chicken-chucking contest, and the world's largest chicken dance!

If chickens aren't your thing, head East to Central Iowa for the National Hobo Convention in Britt, Iowa this August 11-13. This town of 2,000 is just West of Mason City has been paying tribute to hobos since 1900.

The celebration is complete with a hobo cemetery tour and hobo modeling. There's hobo poetry, a pudding-eating contest, cow chip-chucking contest, toilet bowl races, and a big parade. The festivities culminate with the crowning of a King and Queen.
