If you ever follow city council meetings, on occasion you'll see business owners or managers appearing before the council to explain how one of their employees sold liquor to someone underage and what protocol has been changed to ensure it won't happen again.

The next time the failed businesses of an alcohol compliance check appear before the council, representatives of the Gas Barrel on West Madison and the Freedom Valu Center on West 12th Street will plead their case.

The employee at the till typically is fined for the infraction.  Should there be additional infractions, the business risks losing their liquor license.

On August 17, 2017, officers of the Sioux Falls Police Department checked twenty seven businesses, with the two aforementioned not passing.
