What a season.  The Augustana Vikings started the year with a load of freshmen players and have turned it into a nice year with a record of 21-8 so far.  I say this far cause they're still playing basketball!

The Vikings take on Upper Iowa Saturday March 16th (11:30 a.m. pre-game-12:00 p.m. tip-off) and you can hear the game on Kickin' Country and world wide at KIKN.com. The Vikings have made two appearances in the region championship game in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

The region tournament will be held March 16-19, and will be hosted by Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn.  Here's a look at the tournament schedule as seen on GoAugie.com

Central Region Tournament
Taylor Center  |  Mankato, Minn.

Quarterfinals - Saturday, March 16

Game 2: No. 2 seed Winona State vs. No. 7 seed Northeastern State, 2:30 p.m.

We hope they keep winning.  We know one thing.  The Vikings have had a great year which has been highlighted by Cam McCafferey setting the all-time scoring record and a group of freshmen stepping up and playing huge rolls.  It also speaks well of the older athletes who gave up playing time for the good of the team.

At Kickin' Country we hear good things about Augustana College.  We see the Elmen Center getting smaller and smaller.  It's really not shrinking but it's getting harder and harder to find a spot to sit at a home game.  That's a happy problem for any program.  Coach Tom Billeter has solidified what has always been an envied program.  He brings in good kids that play hard and know how to represent a program both on and off the court.  Those kids leave as men and go on to bigger and better things.

Oh, I'd also like to thank Jeff Fylling and his co-host for many of the games Kelby Krabbenhoft.   They do a great job at the games and all you have to do is listen to know this.  You will NOT find two stronger supporters of Augustana Basketball.  Anywhere.

Special shout out to Scott Zahn for engineering the bulk of our games this season on Kickin' Country and Jammin' Jay for helping out too. If you know anyone who is interested in running the games for Augie Football this coming fall, we might be able to set them up with some good old fashioned radio experience.  If you know someone, have them shoot an e-mail to jdcollins@kikn.com.
