According to the City of Sioux Falls, the concrete pour of the ice floor at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center took place on Saturday, Jan. 11. The NHL-size ice rink is 200 feet by 85 feet, and the concrete floor flatness and levelness creates smooth ice, which is essential for hockey play for the Sioux Falls Stampede.
Because these measurements are so precise, the ground was graded with lasers, the concrete was poured using lasers, and the concrete was checked with lasers. Tolerances are very tight, less than the thickness of a sheet of paper.
The new Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, scheduled to open fall of 2014. To see daily progress of the four-story, 105-foot-tall building, check out the on-site webcam.
