Welcome to the weekend! Between chipping ice and cleaning up the yard, try to checkout a few of these fun activities as the Sioux Empire unthaws:

SIOUX FALLS STAMPEDE in action Saturday night at 7:05 at the Sioux Falls Arena.  The Herd hosts the Omaha Lancers.

BIKE SAFETY DAY…Saturday at 10:30am at the Brandon Community Library.  Staff from Spoke-N-Sport will teach kids about bike safety.  Helmets 4 Kids will be giving away bike helmets to kids who need one.  If you have a bike helmet, wear it to the library and receive a free mini blizzard from Dairy Queen.  Free event for elementary-aged children.

If your weekend is going to consist of yard cleanup, here is the information for the Tree Drop Off Sites in the Sioux Empire:

Effective immediately, the City of Sioux Falls is extending the hours of operation for the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill and its two tree branch drop-off sites to assist with cleanup due to the ice storm.

Where:

  • East Side East Chambers Street (west of Cliff Avenue by the Household Hazardous Waste Facility and Street Department). Access is available from North Drive to East Ash Street to Chambers Street, and from North Cliff Avenue to Chambers Street. Branches must be placed in a pile and no other waste can be dropped off.
  • West Side North Lyons Boulevard (west of the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds). Access is available from West 12th Street to North Lyons Boulevard, and from West Madison Street to North Lyons Boulevard. Branches must be placed in a pile and no other waste can be dropped off.
  • Landfill 267th Street and 463rd Avenue (Five miles west of City limits). Access is available from West 41st Street to 463rd Avenue, then south into the landfill.

When: Saturday, April 13, 2013, (ending date will be determined later) Monday–Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Charges: Charges will be waived for fallen branches from the ice storm. Commercial loads will not be accepted at the temporary drop-off sites and must go directly to the City of Sioux Falls Sanitary Landfill. All loads must be tarped or in an enclosed vehicle.
