We all remember growing up and first hearing and then learning all those great sacred Christmas songs in church. And we all probably have our favorites.

It might be 'O Little Town Of Bethlehem'.  It could be 'The First Noel'.  Perhaps 'Away In A Manger', 'O Holy Night' or 'What Child Is This'.

Well, there's a 'new' Christmas song that I think will become a 'standard.'

First off, when I say 'new', well...I mean 'new' in relation to those other songs I mentioned.  This isn't new, shiny-out-of-the-package.

I guess I first heard 'There's A New Kid In Town' back in the 1980's. Written by three great songwriters, Don Cook, Curly Putnam and Keith Whitley, I heard Keith singing it somewhere on the radio.  Of course, when I heard the man say 'New Kid In Town', I figured I was going to be hearing the Eagles classic.  I figured wrong.

What I heard was a song, a true meaning of Christmas song, that would fit in nicely with those other Christmas classics.

Since that time, I've heard several versions of this great 'new' Christmas standard, by people like Trisha Yearwood and Randy Travis, George Strait, Blake Shelton, Chris Young and others.

In the version above (from the 1991 Alan Jackson album 'Honky Tonk Christmas') Alan and the late great Keith Whitley duet on the song.  See if you don't agree that this song could well, someday, become a Christmas standard we could all sing along with.
