The Wrap: This Week in Review
Here’s a few of the stories that had Sioux Falls and surrounding area talking this week:
The new clubhouse at Prairie Green Golf Course opened June 1st, offering more space, amenities, and an all-around cool place for duffers to pony up on the bets.
If you are going to commit a crime, don’t…lick…anything. The supreme court ruled earlier this week that DNA may now be swabbed from suspect and used against perp in court of law without needing a warrant. One Sioux Falls man received 15 years in prison after a casino robbery in 2012 in which DNA was recovered from a beer bottle.
Authorities evacuated a trailer park on Burnside Dr after a drill punctured a natural gas line. Someone was digging to secure a new deck when the accident occurred. Reminder to call 811 before you dig. You can also click here for more in-state information and the color guides for flags and what they mean.
Finally, a little bit of good news when it comes to gas prices. According to southdakotagasprices.com, they seem to be falling statewide and that’s a good direction to go with summer vacations, and the Surgis Motorcycle Rally coming.
Vandals are continuing to break into area ballparks and burgle concessions such as candy, sodas, and beer. The latest include $300 worth of items from Dunham Park. Terrace park reported around $700 worth of concessions missing. Also, the Sioux Falls Stadium was broken into Sunday night and took the 4-wheeler known as the ‘Gator‘ for a damaging ride. The keys were left in it.
Just in time for the summer fairs and carnivals. Two girls were stranded on a ride called the Sidewinder in Sisseston over the weekend after the ride suffered a scary malfunction. The cage they were riding in struck a support rod. The girls were stuck for nearly an hour suspended in mid-air. (source)
Lake Madison to see more breasts and thighs. The Lakes Bar & Grill will serve Keg recipe fried chicken, chislic and side dishes including baked beans, coleslaw and potato wedges. They’ve added hamburgers and serve steak on weekends. The Keg in Sioux Falls closed last year. (source)
When Gloria C. Mackenzie claimed her $590.5 million Powerball jackpot, she released a statement revealing that another woman “was kind enough” to allow her to cut in line when she purchased the winning ticket. That woman, Mindy Crandell, 34, is not upset that her charitable gesture likely cost her an enormous fortune and says “things are meant to be for a reason.” (source)
