The competition for the 2016 Summit League has already begun at the University of South Dakota.

USD kicked off their 2016 Summit League Food Fight this week. The non-perishable food drive will continue through January 26 and resume again on February 18-24.

The university is not alone in the fight, as all nine Summit League institutions are competing to raise the most pounds of food and earn the food fight trophy.

Every $5.00 cash donation made equates to 13lbs. of food. In 2015 USD collected enough cash and food donations to equal 13,485 lbs. of food and finish runner-up in the contest.

USD fans are asked to bring all non-perishable food items or make monetary donations at any or all of the Coyotes' upcoming home athletic events and other fundraising events they have planned throughout the collection period. The proceeds will benefit the Vermillion Food Pantry.

One of the activities planned is happening here in Sioux Falls on Tuesday, February 23. Buffalo Wild Wings on Louise Ave. will donate 10 percent of all their sales from 5-8 P.M. that evening to the food fight.

The 2016 Summit League Championship games happen March 5-8 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
