For many years we have seen the mayfly infestation around the Yankton area. Especially close to Lewis & Clark Recreation area. Then there was that one year that saw frogs crossing the interstate at White Lake, South Dakota. That was a real mess.

Now the scourge of Mormon crickets have been decimating crops in parts of the western United States.

A Mormon cricket isn't a true cricket like we have here in South Dakota.  They're actually a cousin to the grasshopper and about 3-inches long.

There are reports of these buggers taking out entire alfalfa fields and destroying vineyards in Idaho. Other states including Nevada and Oregon are also seeing swarms of Mormon crickets.

The drought conditions here in South Dakota are bad enough.  We sure don't need these ravenous critters here.
