Going to the movies has always been entertaining. Whether it's a family night out, date night, or even a alone getaway, people grab their popcorn and enjoy the latest films. Each week, I like to dive into the numbers and see what movies met expectations, and which ones failed.

    Universal

    Lone Survivor was released all over the country this past weekend and easily earned the top spot at the box office gaining $37.8 million. The movie was previously released in select theaters across the country.

    Frozen - $14.7 Million

    Disney

    Disney's Frozen continues to pull in a crowd at the theaters. The movie was released back at the end of November and has been in the top five ever since. This week, Frozen finishes in a distant second with $14.7 million earned. The movie has now earned over $317 million.

    The Legend of Hercules - $8.8 Million

    Lionsgate

    Another new debuting movie in the top five this week is Lionsgate's The Legend of Hercules earning $8.8 million. The debut was nowhere near what Lionsgate would have intended it to be after spending around $70 million on the movie.

    The Wolf of Wall Street - $8.8 Million

    Paramount

    Leonardo DiCaprio's newest film continues to put a good showing on at the box office. The Wolf of Wall Street earned $8.8 Million at the box office this weekend, just behind The Legend of Hercules. The movie first appeared in theaters on Christmas day, and remains in the fourth spot of the box office list for a second consecutive week.

    Sony

    American Hustle rounds out the top five for a second consecutive week after posting $8.3 million. After this past weekend, the movie has now earned over $100 million.
