‘The Bible’s’ Devil of a Controversy
I wasn't at my desk for more than 3 minutes Monday morning before the first of several co-workers at the studios asked if I'd seen 'The Bible' the night before. But it wasn't the usual line of conversation regarding the hit show on the History Channel.
No, this topic was gaining ground as one of the most talked about items on social media. The internet was fired up by millions who noticed that the actor cast in the role of Satan looks quite a bit like President Barack Obama.
Now, look at the picture above again. Okaaaay...
Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni plays the role of the fallen angel. A number of Twitter users noticed the similarity between Ouazanni and Obama on Sunday.
Executive producer Roma Downey added: “Both Mark and I have nothing but respect and love our President, who is a fellow Christian. False statements such as these are just designed as a foolish distraction to try and discredit the beauty of the story of The Bible.”
Mark Burnett went on to say:
This is utter nonsense. The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouzaani, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He has previously played parts in several Biblical epics -- including Satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our President.”
The White House has not made a comment, but Joshua Dubois, former head of the White House faith office Tweeted "Re: Satan in #TheBible, I see way more Sith Lord than anything else. I think folks are reaching. #JustSayin."
Whew, with that being explained, we can now focus on the strange things that have happened on the set of filming 'The Bible'...
