We can mostly agree that South Dakota is a great place to live, work and raise a family. Weather you live in one of the bigger cities or the smallest of small towns, the 605 is pretty good. But, it's still interesting to see where your town ranks in comparison to the rest of the state.

The employment research website Zippia crunched the numbers and found the 10 most successful cities in The Mount Rushmore State. They analyzed the poverty level, median
household income, and unemployment rate in every city in South Dakota to make their rankings.

1. Pierre

With a median income if  $52,961, a poverty rate at 10% and unemployment at 2.3%; the state capitol tops the list.

2. Brandon

This growing suburb of Sioux Falls has a population of population: 9,350. It's median income is $69,792 and has a poverty level of 6.7% and unemployment rate at 3.9%.

 

3. Aberdeen

The Hub City of the Dakotas in the northeastern part of the state has a population of 26,979 with a median income of $47,540. The poverty level is 13.1% and unemployment rate is 3.0%.

4. Mitchell

The home of the Corn Palace is the sixth largest city in the state with a population of 15,490. The median income is $47,622 with a poverty level of 11.7% and an unemployment rate at 3.7%.

5. Sioux Falls

The biggest city in South Dakota is an important regional economic center in the Upper Midwest. With a population over 170,000 the median income is $52,607. The city has a poverty level of 10.9% and an unemployment rate of 4.6%.
