Former North Carolina star, P.J. Hairston will join the NBA D-League because he was suspended by the NCAA for rules violations last month.

For Hairston, it was either go over seas or join the NBA D-League if he wanted to resume his basketball career this year.

He choose the D-League and the Texas Legends were able to acquire his services.

The Legends are the Dallas Mavericks D-League affiliate, owned by Dallas Mavericks president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson and coached by former NBA veteran forward Eduardo Najera.

Even though Hairston will be in the D-League, he is not eligible to be called up this year and will have to still enter the 2014 NBA Draft this Summer.

Last year, Glen Rice Jr. took a similar path and was drafted by the New York Knicks in the 2013 NBA Draft.
