The Redlin Art Center has placed Terry’s final painting in the gallery for a limited time according to Executive Director Julie Ranum:

The painting will be on display until Monday, September 19, 2016. For years, the Redlin family held the painting, unsure of how to explain why it is so different from the rest of Terry’s collection. The colors are different. The level of detail is different. The overall style is different. It is a reflection of a very difficult time in Terry Redlin’s life.

'An Evening on Ice' reveals changes in Redlin's life.  The colors are more vibrant than previous works and the deer in the painting appear to have stripes.

Redlin began working on the piece of art in 2005 and struggled until 2007 when his family convinced him to take it off the easel.  Redlin was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2007 at the age of 70.

Terry’s wife, Helene, and son, Charles, finally convinced him to stop working on the painting and allow it to go to press. After a lifetime as an artist, the disease stripped Terry of his ability to paint - something that was so second nature to him... He lost his ability to paint. He lost his memories of his loved ones. And, on April 24, 2016, he lost his life.

The display is taking place to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease.  The Redlin Art Center is located in Watertown, South Dakota.
