According to CNN, a North Carolina man's decision to tattoo his dog is getting both criticism and praise on social media.

Ernesto Rodriguez says he tattooed his two dogs with large, elaborate tattoos so they would be easily recognized if they were ever lost.

People for the Ethical Treatment Treatment of Animals (PETA), says tattooing is an accepted method of identifying animals. On their website, they advocate using a microchip or tattoo.

The National Dog Registry recommends on its website that a number of the owner's choice be tattooed on the pet in an easily visible spot.

Some on social media are both applauding Rodriguez and also saying a large tattoo is over-the-top.

Do you support Rodriguez or is a large tattoo on each of his dogs overkill?
