A T-rex named Sue is back in South Dakota, and it didn’t come without a few structural changes to the Washington Pavilion.

The full-scale replica of the famous dinosaur is 42-feet long and 12-feet high.

Workers had to raise the ceiling by 6-feet and temporarily remove a 4th floor window to fit the ol’ gal in the Kirby Science Discovery Center.

Dinosaur Sue was uncovered in the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in western South Dakota in the summer of 1990 by Sue Hendrickson, while searching for fossils in a creek bed. As they were leaving, the truck they were riding in got a flat tire. While her crew was changing the flat, Sue decided to check a rock wall that was undiscovered when she discovered a piece of bone jutting from the rock.

It was later determined that the prehistoric fossil was a record 80 percent complete.

The actual bones reside at Chicago’s Field Museum. The Sioux Falls replica was cast from the bones of the original Sue.
