Many people consider cutting grass a tedious chore. However, one Alabama A&M student does it to show kindness. Senior Rodney Smith Jr. started a free lawn care service for the elderly, disabled and single moms. It all started when he saw an older man struggling to mow his grass last year. So he decided to start his own lawn care service.

Raising Men Lawn Care Service, a not-for-profit organisation, has raised just its goal of over $25,000, which Smith says will be used to buy lawn equipment and uniforms for the volunteers. He said his goal was to mowing just 40 lawns, but within two months, Smith and his volunteers had made it to 200 lawns. At no cost to homeowners.

Each volunteer gets a t-shirt, colored to represent how many lawns they have mowed, similar to the belt order in karate. Smith Jr. graduates in May and hopes to get his Master's degree in social work.
