Professional chefs spend years honing their craft and creating perfect blends of flavors and aromas to satisfy the most discerning palates. Mango and chili powder. Chocolate and chilies. Soup dumplings and black vinegar. Root beer and vanilla ice cream.

Most of us are not professional chefs. And as a result the pairings we come up with are, how shall we say it, less than appetizing.

Still we persist in combining those that should not be combined.
