A series of burglaries earlier this week in Sioux Falls resulted in several guns, credit cards, and other items being stolen from homes in both Lincoln and Minnehaha county.

That case got a big break on Tuesday, (April 11) when a child found a gun case in the 1900 block of South Queens Avenue, the discovery led authorities to three other guns stashed in a pine tree in that same area the following day.

KDLT News is reporting The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office says the stolen credit cards were used to purchase a number of items at area Sioux Falls businesses, some of the items included CO2 rifles.

Authorities eventually arrested two men, Anthony Beck and Aaron Swenson. Both were charged with burglary, grand theft, and possession of methamphetamine.

Three other individuals were also apprehended at the Red Rock Inn for possession of stolen property on Monday.

Captain Jason Gearman with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office told KDLT News the suspects were just tossing guns out in residential areas where kids were walking back and forth and go to school. According to Gearman, police were just happy to get the guns off the street, which isn’t always the outcome in these types of cases.

Authorities remind gun owners to be responsible, by always making sure your firearms are locked up and out of sight from would-be burglars. It is also a very good idea to write down the serial numbers of your various firearms, that way should they be stolen, you can get them back much easier.
