I fell completely in love with the "Roaring Twenties" after seeing a movie musical called Thoroughly Modern Millie. It was a fun little story about romance, flappers, white slavery, (mhm, you read that correctly) prohibition, and was set to a snappy little Academy award-winning score. It starred Julie Andrews, Mary Tyler Moore, the gorgeous John Gavin, James Fox and Carol Channing.

It made me want to travel back in time, don a flapper wardrobe and dance "The Charleston" and "The Tapioca" until my feet gave out! It made me riddle my mom with questions about the 20's, which she happily would answer, even though she was barely in elementary school when they started. It made me realize there was another period in history for which, I sadly, was born too late.

If you've ever wanted to don a flapper dress, spend one night back when speakeasies were the social clubs of the day, where people would drink "bathtub gin", listen to what some considered "that depraved jazz music" and dance like no one was watching, this Saturday night is your night! Plus you'll be raising funds to fight a pervasive disease that is truly a silent killer.
