PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A community prayer vigil to remember the victims in last week's Connecticut school shooting was held Monday night at the state Capitol.

The Pierre-Fort Pierre Ministerium hosted the event, which began at 5:30 p.m.

Ministerium President Pastor Karl Kroger says the vigil is a chance to remember the victims and pray for the nation.

Authorities say 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot to death 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday, including 20 children, and then killed himself.

Kroger says the shootings have impacted many people and a service is needed for everyone.
