After splitting the first two games of the 2013 season, the South Dakota football team has a weekend off to get ready for the their final non-conference tune-up game, a match-up at Northern Arizona, September 21st.

The Coyotes are coming off a 31-14 loss at Kansas last Saturday, a game that saw USD grab and early 7-0 lead, and move the ball fairly effectively on the ground, with 219 yards rushing.

Head coach Joe Glenn liked the effort of his team overall in Lawrence:

The most glaring weakness for the Coyotes came in the punting game, where freshman Miles Bergner kicked seven times, and a combination of long snapping issues from backup Trevor Bouma and hurried kicks made it an adventure, and helped give the Jayhawks good field position, inside USD territory on three different occasions:

While the Coyotes were effective running the ball, the passing game was inconsistent, with quarterback Josh Vander Maten going 8-of-18 for just 67 yards.  USD's offense sputtered after the second quarter, converting just 1-of-9 on third down:

Defensively, the Coyotes held a Big 12 team to just 14 first half points, but between the heat, a lack of depth, a struggling second half offense, and great field position for Kansas, it was too much to ask:

USD is back on the practice field this week, with no opponent for another nine days.  But that isn't stopping the Coyotes from looking ahead, rather that looking back:
