WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 state capitals to identify which among them combines the best of everything an ideal city has to offer: affordability, a strong economy, high education standards and overall excellent quality of life. Our data set of 35 key metrics ranges from cost of living to K–12 school-system quality to number of attractions.

Pierre, SD is third out of 50 when it comes to affordable housing. They ranked lower on the list when it comes to highest percentage of state and local government employees and most mean hours worked per week.

The study looked at the number of restaurants, bars, coffee shops and attractions in each state. It also looked at the percentage of residents below the poverty level and foreclosure rate.
