The Bob Nielson era at the University of South Dakota will be starting earlier than originally planned.

The Coyotes new head coach will lead his team into the 2016 opener against New Mexico, Thursday, September 1, at 8:00 PM Central time, in Albuquerque. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 3.

The move allows the game to be televised on ROOT SPORTS Rocky Mountain and ROOT SPORTS Southwest, with the possibility of the game being picked up by ROOT SPORTS Northwest.

It will be the first Thursday night game for the Coyotes since 2009, when USD opened at home against William Penn.

South Dakota's 2016 home opener against Weber State is Saturday, September 10, at 2:00 PM.
