I recently had the opportunity to hit the road for a quick trip to Viborg, South Dakota. Viborg is one of those small towns in South Dakota that, if you don't know someone there, or have a reason to go there, you'll never see. I'll tell you right now, Viborg is one of the best kept secrets in the state.

When I got to town, I asked several people, how they pronounce the name of the town. Vi'Berg was the response from most that I talked to. They said, if you're not from Viborg, you might say Vi'Borg. So Berg it is.

One of the biggest events of the year is Danish Days coming up in July. People from all over the world come to the town for the event. In past years #momsontables trended on twitter and other social media. Evidently later in the evening, perhaps after an adult beverage or two there has been a little dancing on picnic tables hence the hashtag.

It really is a nice small town. The traffic around the elevator was heavy the day I was there with local farmers moving grain off their farms to market. The Country Cookin' Cafe had liver and onions on the lunch menu and a couple of the locals told me of local events coming up.

April 1st they're having a Bean Bag Tournament (call Jessica at 605.351-5709) to enter. I talked with Dale who said they're also having a Cribbage Tournament. Proceeds from both events to go to their anniversary celebration coming up Summer 2018.

When I left I only had one feeling.

Jealousy.

I'm jealous of people that get to live in small towns. Especially ones like Viborg. Viborg, South Dakota. Please share this with your Facebook and Twitter friends and if you would like to add to this story, let me know. jdcollins@kikn.com
