The next time you open a bag of sunflower seeds, think of our South Dakota farmers. They are number one.

South Dakota has been named the leading sunflower producing state in the nation for the second straight year.

The National Sunflower Association says this is only the third time since 1977 that South Dakota has been the leading state.

Sunflower producer Lance Hourigan says, "Sunflowers are a good crop for South Dakota because of its unpredictable weather."
