South Dakota Christmas Meals
Why did I title this story Christmas Meals? Well, because in most households we have several gatherings we need to attend. The In-laws, the homestead and maybe where you grew up. So, I posted the question on our Facebook, what's for dinner at your Christmas gathering. Here are some of the reply's:
- Jessica Johnson Ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, fruit salad, and chocolate cream pies
- Taylor Fender Crab legs!
- Chelsea Sieveke Ham, a veggie platter, mashed potatoes, sliced fruit and pumpkin pie!
- Bill VanderVorst Meatloaf, Tator Tots, green bean cassarole, and many budweisers along with KIKN!
- KIKN 100.5 Starting to get hungry. Keep em coming! JD
- KIKN 100.5 Meatloaf and Budweiser??? I'm going to Bill's house! - DC
- Chad Arens Roast, duck, taters, corn, stuffing, veggie tray, pies, cold salads, buns and of course presents. How about you. What dies your family have planed
- Bill VanderVorst We will see you there DC!
- KIKN 100.5 When we have it at our house on Christmas Eve...it's Waffles with an old family cookbook. I make a mean waffle! But I could use a new waffle iron. I have to put my wallet under one leg of it to keep the waffle batter from getting lop sided. JD
- Angela Christ Riedel We have nachos, salami and cheese and of course the Christmas cookies.
- Joanie Auch Goose, duck, ham, mashed potatoes, potato dumplings, stuffing, salads, rolls and apple strudel!!
- Chelsey Stoterau Oyster stew!!!
- Jamie Brown Oyster stew and hot wings!!!!!!! mmmmmmm
- Melissa Bartmann-Heinz Oyster stew & chili for the weenies!
- KIKN 100.5 Oh yeah...little cocktail weenies! Forgot about those. We have those sometimes too Melissa. Hot wings sound good Jamie. JD
- Karla Van Ningen Let's go there, wherever that is. Sounds like a delish day.
- Paige Reilly Ochsner Christmas is fancy chicken tacos with chips & dip. Christmas day is a big breakfast & steaks for lunch than dinner of roast turkey & all the trimmings plus sweets all through both days. By the end of the day we are being rolled back to our house.
- Duane Christensen Roast beef at Moms. Enchiladas at the Mom-in-Laws.
- Angie Talcott hamburgers cooked on the grill (no matter the weather) and chilli!!!
- Dan Varns Oyster stew & chili on Xmas Eve. Usually ham dinner on Xmas day.
A couple of the meals caught my eye. Joanie's was almost exactly what I expect we'll have at Tyndall this weekend for one of our gatherings. Except for the apple strudel, which I think could be a nice addition to the gathering. The other one, is Oyster Stew. Maybe it's my German- Norwegian heritage but it seems to be one that keeps coming up around these parts.
Whatever you have at your Christmas Gatherings, we hope that you all get along and have a great time. It's probably a great time to 'again' remind everyone that if you're going to drink, to make sure you have a designated driver.
Oh, one other thought. Take a look around the office. Maybe there is someone who doesn't have a place to go for a holiday meal. Ask them over to your place. I have a feeling you're probably going to have enough food to go around. Probably enough to send them home with a plate full too.
How about you? Do you have any Holiday Specialties? If you have a recipe you'd like to share, we would love to hear from you. Hey, one Christmas Dinner story probably isn't enough.
