Small Town of the Day – Stickney, SD

I don’t know what Joel Priem does for a living, but Stickney, South Dakota would best be served by hiring the guy to work at the chamber of commerce.  I just asked a few minutes ago for someone to call in and nominate a SD town as our Small Town of the Day.  He did a great job.  According to Wikipedia,

The town was named for J.B. Stickney, an official with the Milwaukee Railroad.[7][8] The town was platted and incorporated in 1905 and a post office was established November 17, 1905.[1][7]

According to Joel:

Best place for an ice cold Diet Coke?  Stumble Inn.  He said it’s also a great place to get a cold beer. If you’re looking for a good burger, Joel didn’t even stumble.  He said, 281 Diner.   Joel also said they have an awesome bowling alley, Stickney Lanes and they set um up and knock em down with four lanes!  (as many as interstate) And they have a newspaper too!

When you come through Stickney, you’ll see the elevator front and center.  It’s an agriculture town and they know it!

Stickney is also home of Alan Miller, a good basketball player that played at DWU.  I asked about the schools.  Stickney now pairs together with Corsica for schooling and they are called the Jaguars!

Joel Priem, thanks for calling and helping out with today’s Kickin’ Country Small Town of the Day!

Joel says, their 8 miles off I-90 and right in the middle of some of the most beautiful country in the world!  Stickney, South Dakota, today’s Small Town of the Day.
