A group of volunteers here in the Sioux Empire used the weekend to do a little traveling, a little time traveling that is.

Over the weekend, Sioux Falls residents were able to experience what it was like to be back in 1575 under the reign of Queen Elizabeth, as the Siouxland Renaissance Association put on their annual renaissance festival at the W.H Lyon Fairgrounds.

This year, marked the 16th year the Siouxland Renaissance Association has been bringing history back to life.

KDLT News is reporting both adults and children braved the heat as they flocked to the fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday (June 10-11) to participate in various activities.

Each year the Siouxland Renaissance Association works to recreate an era and bring characters from that time period back to life according to KDLT TV.

Val Lietz, a board member from the Renaissance Association says, “It’s very gratifying to open the gate in the morning and see all the people that are waiting to come in, and the steady stream that comes in throughout the day, but what’s even more gratifying, is knowing that we have a community impact throughout the year.”

Plans are already in the works for next years event. The 2018 Siouxland Renaissance Festival, is slated to happen June 9 and 10.
