Police say a 75-year-old Sioux Falls woman has been scammed out of $2,300 by a man who called and claimed to be her son.

Officer Sam Clemens says the woman got a call from a man who said he was her son. He told her he was in Grenada, had been in a car wreck and needed money.

The woman "wired" money, but got a second call from the same man, saying he needed more money for the injuries he had supposedly suffered.

The woman realized she had been victimized when she was able to contact her actual son by phone.

Clemens says it's almost impossible to trace such money orders once they have been cashed.
