Anyone who has ever vacationed to San Padre Island knows how beautiful it is. That scene changed for two people over the weekend.

According to KDLT a former Miss South Dakota contestant is in critical condition after a hit and run in Texas.

Authorities say 21-year-old Maria Anderson of Sioux Falls was one of two people struck early Sunday morning on South Padre Island. Anderson and 23-year-old Tyler Sheets were hit around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Both were taken to the hospital.

According to a GoFundMe page, Anderson has broken ribs and a brain injury that she has already undergone surgery for.

Sheets has already been released from the hospital. He has a message for those responsible:

“Turn yourself in. Take the punishment for what you did,” he told KRIS out of Corpus Christi. “You can’t live with it forever. You’re going to be running and they’re going to catch up one of these times. The punishment is going to be a lot worse if they catch you rather than you turning yourself in.”

The go fund me page has reached its $10,000 dollar goal. If you'd like to donate, the link to the page is www.gofundme.com/mariarae.
