Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens says an ATM machine was assaulted Monday night.

"We had a 16-year-old at 10th and Cliff in Sioux Falls who was trying to get some money from an ATM there. He was not able to do it. Apparently, there was a problem. The machine wouldn't give him any money. He decided to take the crow bar that he had with him and attempted to get money out of the ATM. The teen was just looking for the amount that he wanted and wasn't trying to go overboard. But he swung the crow bar quite a few times and was prying on it trying to get it open and was unable too."

Clemens says the Sioux Falls teen was charged with intentional damage to property and petty theft.

In another incident, Clemens says an investigation is underway into a late night home burglary.

"We had a guy that was sleeping at his home in the southwest part of Sioux Falls. Sometime after midnight, he heard a noise like someone was walking up the stairs. He was actually on the couch in the living room. He looked up and saw a person. At first, he thought it was one of his children and then he heard another voice by the garage. He realized it was somebody else that he didn't know. Those two people took off. They ended up finding out there was some cash that was taken and credit cards taken as well."

Clemens says the suspects got in the house from an unlocked garage door.

"The two people entered the house via an unlocked side garage door. They were able to get into the garage and go through the cars---and then through the door from the garage to the house was also unlocked. That's how they were able tot get inside the house."

Clemens reminds residents to keep their homes and garages locked in an effort to prevent a burglary.
