An attempt to get a friend’s cell phone returned got a 16-year-old beaten with a baseball bat. The investigation continues into the Sunday morning incident.

Sioux Falls Police are looking into an aggravated assault at Frank Olson Park. It started with a picture on Snapchat according to Officer Sam Clemens. “They saw somebody that looked like they were holding this friend’s phone.”

After a series of text messages, the two agreed to meet at 2:30 AM Sunday. The victim reported there were approximately a dozen people at the park.

Clemens says the victim was punched first and tried to get away when the big stick came out. “(The suspect) started chasing him with a baseball bat. Eventually the suspect caught up with the victim and hit him several times.”

The victim was left at the scene and called his father to take him to the hospital where he was treated for injuries to his head, back, leg and arm. No arrests have been made, but the suspect is described as black, 5 feet 10 inches, 155 pounds and in his late teens.
