Sioux Falls Teacher Of The Year
If you know a teacher in the Sioux Falls School district that goes above and beyond, nominate them for the Sioux Falls Teacher of the Year. Nominations are now being taken until 5:00pm on Friday, February 15, 2014 for the Dr. John W. Harris Teacher of the Year Award.
Sponsored by the Sioux Falls Public Schools and Vern Eide Motorcars, full-time teachers are eligible to win the Dr. John W. Harris Teacher of the Year Award. The winning teacher will also receive $4,000 in prize money donated by Vern Eide Motorcars, who have been sponsoring the award since it began in 1989. The Sioux Falls School District’s Teacher of the Year also becomes eligible for the Regional Teacher of the Year Award.
Parents, administrators, students, other teachers or community members can all nominate their favorite classroom teacher for this award. Nominees must have a commitment to lifelong learning, the ability to meet the needs of students and community involvement to promote school-community relations. An impact on student achievement and an effectiveness of home-school cooperation is also needed.
The form to nominate an outstanding Sioux Falls Teacher of the Year must be turned into the superintendent’s office and must include three letters of recommendation.
The 2013 Dr. John W. Harris Teacher of the Year was Allison Hutchinson, who teaches Biomedical Sciences as part of Project Lead the Way at the Career and Technical Education Academy.
